I see a tragedy unfolding with two pit bulls and a baby in one house. I've read and watched so many horror stories of babies getting mauled by pit bulls and rottweilers that it worries me.

I'm sorry, who are you?
I have worked with animals for over 10 years and have to say I could make a long list of other breeds that would worry me around my children-Pit Bulls are not on that list. My dogs are very well behaved and VERY well trained.
Do some research before you make a blanket statement like that-why don't you start here

FYI, I live in Ontario, Canada where Pit Bulls are banned after a series of pit bull related fatalities.

Ok, you live in Canada but who are you? What are your credentials on so-called dangerous dogs? I'm just interested in your background and your interest in my family pets.
"Pit Bulls" are banned in Ontario but a "Pit Bull" isn't a breed, it is a term used to describe dogs with many of the same characterisitcs-a Bull Terrier, Am. Staff, Bull Mastiff, American Bulldog...can all be "considered" a Pit Bull. So, what exactly has been banned? Who can really be the judge of what is a "Pit Bull" and what isn't. A Dangerous Dog law would be more effecient. It would cover any breed that has a history of biting. Breed specific legislation DOES NOT work. What ends up happening, as it has in Denver & Miami, is that the resposible dog owners lose their loving pets and the people who are "under the radar" so to speak (drug dealers, gang members, etc) continue to keep dangerous animals around. But that is another conversation for another day.
FYI, I have 3 dogs...An Am. Staff, a Bull Terrier mix and a Lab/Pit mix.

Y'know what? None of this matters. I could throw statstics out ALL day, but I won't. All that matters is that we are responsible parents AND responsible pet owners. Enough said.

I just don't want to read about your family in the news. That's all.

Dear Anoymous,
Well, I can assure you that you won't read about my family.
And please, for your own peace of mind, stop reading my blog. Because I CAN assure you that there will be more photos of my family-furry members included-and I really wouldn't want you out there in cyberspace, worrying about my daughter's safety.
I shouldn't have to defend my family to you but I will reiterate-We are responsible dog owners as well as both having careers in the animal field AND we are resonsible parents.
